Summer Drill Camp 2010

This summer from Monday the 12th through Friday 16th of July, our Greenville Navy Jr. ROTC had a Drill Camp open to all students that will be attending Greenville Senior High School this coming school year.

Some activities that were participated in were, drilling, which included regular Un-Armed & Armed Drill and both Un-Armed & Armed Exhibition Drill.

Along with teaching the new NS1 students facing movements and how to Drill with the Platoon, many took a great deal of athletic ability to the game fields where, the NJROTC students played Speed-Ball, Soft Ball, and Dodge ball during PT (Physical Training).

Other activities that where included in this year's summer Jr. ROTC Drill Camp were some team building exercises. These included games where the students would "Build Houses". In this activity four or more students would lay down in the grass in the push-up position and hold a persons legs on their back and attempt to hold an up-right push-up all at the same time and all linked together.

On the last day of Drill Camp the students did PT in humid 85 to 90 degree weather, however, PT consisted of Water Balloon fights in the Greenville Park under the shade near one of the Shelter Houses after having lunch. Lunch included Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Chips with Brownies and cookies for desert. The meal was considered a 'thank you' for attending the summer program and also for helping clear out the ROCT room which, needed to be cleaned before this coming school year.

All in all, this summer's Drill Camp was a hit. Most of our NS1 students that attended did very well and many things were accomplished. A job well done to our SNSI and NSI, Captain Denman and PN1 Cox, for great planning with our NS4 students, C/Lt. Cdr. Chelsea Buzard and C/Lt. Jessica Bowers.
